Although fans of Conan will know of his Clueless Gamer segment, the other late night hosts - that's Colbert, Kimmel, Fallon and Corden - haven't really bothered with gaming all that much.

Granted, there was that horribly cringey moment when Pierce Brosnan was forced to play GoldenEye 64 with Jimmy 'I can't stop laughing uncontrollably' Fallon, but neither Jimmy Kimmel or James Corden have bothered with it all that much.

Stephen Colbert, however, is a gigantic nerd. Really.

The guy's got an encyclopaedic knowledge of Lord of the Rings and, we're guessing, he's fairly savvy on the likes of speedrunning. For the uninitiated and as Colbert explains in the video below, speedrunning is playing classic games - Sonic The Hedgehog, Super Mario Bros. 3 - to their absolute limit.

The current world record for the first Super Mario Bros. is just under five minutes, however Colbert's guest - Mitch Fowler - is capable of clearing Super Mario Bros. 3 in approximately three and a half minutes.

So, with that in mind, check out the video and see what happens next.

That's a solid effort by all concerned. Trying to get that Warp Whistle on the 1-3 was always pretty difficult and frustrating and that guy did it like it was nothing.

Respect, man. Respect.
