Sports games in general are an acquired taste; one man's exquisite Skate. is another man's bunch of punks messing in traffic. It can be even more specific: some fans of oh, let's say FIFA, may not be enamoured with Pro Evo, and we all know where I stand on that one!

Tennis games are different - I don't know anyone who would get bent out of shape over one. Wii Sports gave us a tennis game that you could get behind, and people liked it. It is not without its problems; it has very basic controls and blocky graphics, but it has heart. Sega Superstar Tennis is like the Anti-Christ of Wii Sports. It has the flashy graphics and sophisticated controls, but it has no heart and is therefore so, so annoying.

During a game of doubles with the lads, I looked around the room to see sullen faces arbitrarily swinging the Wiimote, not really caring when points were scored and talking amongst themselves - not exactly riveting stuff.

We turned it off and put on Wii Sports - I think that says it all!
