Red Faction Guerrilla is the third entry in the Red Faction series, and the first to be released on the current generation of consoles.

The game is still set on Mars and it feels like it's been inspired by eighties sci-fi classics like Total Recall. It features everything you'd expect in a sequel (it's bigger, it's better looking) but the real triumph is the updated GeoMod engine, which makes nearly building and structure destructible. Much of the campaign requires you to do just that, whether it be with your hammer, grenades or heavy weapons.

Guerrilla's multiplayer is particularly good. The destructible environments means missions to take over the enemy base become something else all together when you can literally knock buildings down or blow them up, even if the other players are taking cover inside. Throw into the mix backpacks which allow you to sneak around the map, fly in the air and even charge through walls and you have one the best multiplayer experiences released this year.

The game is not perfect though; the plot is relatively simplistic and it's not as good looking as other sandbox games like Grand Theft Auto IV or Far Cry 2. However, any game that lets you level bridges, use jet packs and knock out opponents with hammers is a winner.
