Although it hasn't launched here in Ireland just yet, Pokemon GO has become a cultural sensation in the space of a few short days.

As the mobile game works best when you're actually out in the real world, a number of strange stories have cropped up online about people finding Pokemon in weird places.

Already, a police station in Darwin, Australia has had to ask players to keep away from the building as it doubles as both a Pokestop and the location of a Sandshrew, a particularly rare kind of Pokemon.

One teenager found a dead body in a river in Wyoming, USA when the augmented reality game ordered her to search near a natural source of water, whilst others have found Pokemon in the strangest of places.

The winner so far has to be Jonathan Theriot, who found a Pidgey in a hospital room. Nothing too odd about that except the Pokemon landed right on the bed where his wife was giving birth to his third daughter.

As you'd expect, Jonathan had to follow through and catch it because come on, it's a Pidgey and they're pretty rare. Amazingly, however, Jonathan's wife is surprisingly OK with the whole thing. "She wasn’t mad at all. She just kind of laughed at it. It was primarily an eyeroll once she realized what I was doing," said Theriot after the event.

When your wife is about to have a baby and a Pokemon shows up and you have to low-key catch it...

As it stands, Pokemon GO still isn't available in Ireland or the UK as the official roll-out of the game has been halted while Niantic Labs deal with server issues. The game is available via unofficial means, but it's advisable that you wait for the real thing.
