One of the biggest complaints we had about Star Wars: Battlefront was it lack of a single-player campaign.

It really did strike us as odd that the game shipped without one and, judging by the reviews and reaction it got, it was the same for everyone else. Although it should come as no surprise, Electronic Arts have admitted that - yes, there was a reason why Battlefront was launched without a single-player campaign.

Anyone like to guess? Anyone? No? The Force Awakens, obviously. "We made (the choice) due to time and being able to launch the game side-by-side with the movie that came out to get the strongest possible impact," explained Peter Soderlund, EA's VP in charge of EA Studios. "I think the team created a really good game based on the premise that we had. I would say the game has done very well for us and reached a very different demographic than a traditional EA game. So from that perspective, it’s a success."

"Are we happy with the 75 rating? No. Is that something we’re going to cure going forward? Absolutely."

More than anything, Battlefront needs some serious polishing when it comes to how it presents itself and what's available with the game. While, yes, we'd call the Multiplayer a qualified success and the various game modes were a big help, it still did feel like we were only getting three-quarters of a game. It's not as if there would have been a huge amount of time needed to get a single-player campaign together and, more pointedly, it says a lot that there's almost no attempt so far at releasing one for DLC.

Most likely EA Studios and DICE have given up the ghost on Battlefront and are turning their attention to the inevitable sequel. Let's just hope they don't force that one out without actually putting together a single-player campaign.
