Nintendo might have hit the jackpot with this one. For the first time ever, they have launched a pay-to-play service for their home console Nintendo Switch. The subscription service comes with a whole host of features, including the ability to play classic NES games online with a friend.

Since the launch of the Nintendo Switch console in 2017, the system lacked the big online presence like rivals Playstation 4 and Xbox One have been doing for years - and now Nintendo are finally in direct competition with them.

Along with the ability to play your usual games online with friends, you'll also be able to play classic NES games online too. 20 games are already available, including Donkey Kong, The Legend of Zelda, and Super Mario Bros. 3, with many more on the way in the future.

Here's hoping that once all of the NES titles have been released, Nintendo moves onto the huge SNES collection.

Users who avail of the service will also be able to use Nintendo's Cloud Data to save games if they are short on storage; use their smartphone app to voice chat with friend's online; and avail of exclusive offers only for online members.

A year's subscription to the service is €19.99, which is pretty good value even when you consider the ever-growing NES catalogue alone.

It's a stroke of genius from Nintendo, at a time when games like Fifa 19, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, and Pokemon: Let's Go! are just around the corner from being released.
