'Hogwarts Legacy' got a major gameplay reveal at last week's Playstation State of Play coference.

The world of 'Harry Potter' has been well-explored in books and film, and 'Hogwarts Legacy' now lets players visit the wizarding world in video game form.

The game is due out later this year, and players got a first proper look at the game at last week's Sony State of Play conference.

The 15-minute video showed off players being able to pick their Hogwarts house, take part in lessons, and explore the famous magical school.

'Hogwarts Legacy' comes to us from Avalanche Studios, who have good chops in the licenced games department: the studio developed the surprisingly good tie-in game for 'Toy Story 3' in 2010.

The studio also developed the 'Disney Infinity' set of games, and with the full backing of Warner Brothers on the project, the game certainly won't be a rushed-out cash grab like so many other games based on iconic films.

'Hogwarts Legacy' lets players live out their fantasies of being a student at Hogwarts, and from the gameplay video, the game appears to be a treasure trove of references to the beloved 'Harry Potter' series.

Taking place in the 1800s, players will attend lessons at the famous school, take part in duels, learn how to cast spells, and of course, wander the massive environments.

'Hogwarts Legacy' will release on the PlayStation line of consoles, the Xbox consoles, PC and Nintendo Switch, meaning that fans across all consoles can experience what is sure to be one of the year's biggest blockbusters.

The game is tentatively pencilled in for a 2022 release date, and we expect a solid release date soon.
