Well now, it is not often that I am surprised. Actually, it's never; 28 years and not one surprise party… but that's a story for another day! What I am surprised about is Far Cry 2. I wasn't a big fan of the first game; in fact I don't really like jungle shooters in general.

Right from the get go you realise there is something special about FC2. For starters, you get to pick from a host of different characters all of whom seem well researched and properly put together. Then begins the epic drive from the airport to your hotel, and I do mean epic, the designers obviously wanted to show off the beautiful environments and the mammoth 50 square km of world.

Ubisoft have abandoned the over the top mutant abilities gimmick from the first game and I'm delighted - it was a totally unnecessary aspect of the first game. There is an awful lot to like here. Unfortunately, everyone dresses the same making it hard to recognise friend or foe. Maybe this heightens the tension for some but, personally, it just pissed me off.
