Despite this year's expo intended on being an all-encompassing technology show off, all eyes were on one thing and one thing only: Sony's PS4 vs Microsoft's Xbox One. First off, Microsoft announced that for their new console to work properly, it would need to be connected to the internet at least once a day. Then it followed it up by telling us that it would need to be "always on", with the now mandatory Kinect watching you at all times, should you feel the need to SUDDENLY want to play the Xbox One, but not have to go through the hassle of actually standing up, walking all the way over the console, and pushing a button. THEN it confirmed that it would not allow second-hand games to work, so there's no "used games" section for the Xbox One coming to a store near you. Finally, we're told it will be available to buy this November for €499 euros.

In the most surgical, tactical announcement / attack on a competitor, Sony's press announcement let us know that it did not need to be online to work, you could turn it off whenever you wanted, used games would still work, and it would cost €399 upon release. Round One goes to Sony!

Anyway, on with the games. This year's E3 had over 60 new games being showcased - from teeny tiny teaser trailers to extended in game footage - and as much as we'd love to go into detail on each and every one of them, ain't nobody got time for that. A lot of the games have already been heavily publicised prior to the event, so instead we're going to focus on the ten games that got us the most excited, and that you may not have heard of prior to this year's E3.

THE EVIL WITHIN (PS3, Xbox 360, PC)
Watch Trailer
For the last while it feels like Survival Horror games have lost their way, with Resident Evil turned to action and Silent Hill turned to, well, crap. But now the creator of RE has returned to his horror roots with this story of a journalist trapped in a mental asylum. Creepy, violent, prepare to sleep with the lights on.

QUANTUM BREAK (Xbox One)
Watch Trailer
This is one of those awesome cinematic plots that you just can't wait to get your hands on to play, as you control a detective involved in the corruption and murder at a company that has managed to control and freeze the passage of time. Ticking clock mystery thriller meets action explosion fest.

UNTITLED HALO GAME (Xbox One)
Watch Trailer
Not much to go on from this, it doesn't even have a title yet, but the teaser trailer was awesome, and it's a Halo game, so it's bound to make billions regardless.

METAL GEAR SOLID V: THE PHANTOM PAIN (PS4, Xbox One)
Watch Trailer
This looks likely to be the most realistic tactical espionage game ever made, with your character voiced by none other than Kiefer Sutherland, and the action now taking place in Afghanistan. The MGS series is renowned for its OTT plots, but perhaps this might see the series take on a more grounded path.

INFAMOUS: SECOND SON (PS4)
Watch Trailer
Sequel to the frankly awesome games that were InFamous 1 & 2, Second Son sees you controlling a new character who gets gifted some superpowers, and then it's up to you whether or not you use them for good or evil. So basically you get to play the game twice, once as a superhero, and then again as a supervillain. Awesome.

KILLZONE: SHADOW FALL (PS4)
Watch Trailer
We could go into what the plot of this game is about, or the new top of the line engine designed for the game to play effortlessly on, but ... look how pretty! This isn't a videogame, this is eye-sex! This shooter is absolutely gorgeous, and will run at 60 frames per second, which if you don't know what that means, is a very good, very beautiful thing.

TITANFALL (Xbox One, Xbox 360, PC)
Watch Trailer
Probably the closest we're going to get to playing a video game version of the movie Pacific Rim, this game has you running about stealthy on foot, or fortifying yourself inside a giant robot, to fight a war on some distant planet. This is the game you'll be playing at 4am with your new best friend from Japan.

DESTINY (Xbox One)
Watch Trailer
Bungle created Halo and eventually passed it on to another company so they could focus on another original title of their own, which is where Destiny comes in. Another first person shooter, but set in a world of aliens and creepy planets, this game has "massive space opera" written all over it.

BEYOND: TWO SOULS (PS4)
Watch Trailer
From the makers of Heavy Rain - the game that was completed by more players than any other, fact fans - comes another step in gaming that brings it ever closer to reality. Featuring famous actors Ellen Paige and Willem Dafoe, you'll be controlling a new female army recruit as she is forced to take some questionable actions while on a particularly dangerous mission.

MURDERED: SOUL SUSPECT (PS3, Xbox 360, PC)
Watch Trailer
This looks a lot like L.A. Noire, except set closer to modern day, as you play an investigating detective looking for a murderer. Oh, and you're a ghost and you're looking for the guy who killed you. Probably should've mentioned that earlier. But still, that's got you interested now, hasn't it?

If that wasn't enough, this years also had new trailers for the likes of Assassins Creed IV: Black Flag, Batman: Arkham Origins, Battlefield 4, Bayonetta 2, Below, Call Of Duty: Ghosts, Dark Souls 2, Dead Rising 3, Dying Light, FIFA 2014, Final Fantasy XV, Killer Instinct, Kingdom Hearts 3, Mad Max, Mario Kart 8, Mirror's Edge 2, The Order: 1886, Plants VS Zombies: Garden Warfare, Ryse: Son Of Rome, Saints Row IV, South Park: The Stick Of Truth, Star Wars: Battlefield, Super Smash Bros., Thief, Watch_Dogs, The Witcher III, Wolfenstein: The New Order and loads, LOADS more.

We thoroughly recommend you YouTube the trailers for any of the above that tickled your fancy, and keep checking back in with entertainment.ie for updates, previews and reviews on all the big games releases.
