A lot of gamers missed out on the original Crysis back in 2007. A PC only release, it was famously so processor intensive that most machines trying to run the thing died a small death. Crysis 2 is a release, on the other hand, that gamers have no excuse for missing. At fist I really wanted to dislike it; it's yet another shooter about a marines, and soldiers gone bad and aliens...but the combination of running and gunning, stealth and super weapons won me over. It is many different things depending on your style of play.

The campaign clocks at an impressive 11 plus hours and the depiction of New York as a city under siege looks, sounds and plays like a triple A title should. The locations aren't quite as open as in the original, or even as in Far Cry, but compared to most shooters Crysis 2 is the great wide open. When the AI works, it's superb but brace yourself for a frustrating checkpoint system. Rest assured, Crytek have put a lot of thought into the multiplayer too and it's genuinely different to typical online shooters.

This is the new benchmark.
