The Alien Breed Trilogy is an early 90's top down series of shooters supposedly set in the Alien universe that's been given the HD treatment for consoles. Now, the three games can be picked up as a package or for 800 points each off Xbox Live. Has the series aged well? Yes and No.

New additions include an online mode, leader-boards, co-op and a survivor mode. There's hours of game-time here for trigger itch gamers, the co-op is a blast in short bursts, the storyline climactic enough in a hackneyed sci-fi kind of way and the HD lick of paint shines.

However, Alien Breed is frustratingly hard in places, the mechanics are very dated and the controls take a bit of getting used to. I spent a lot of time trying to figure out where to go and who to shoot (turns out anything that moves) and it's quickly clear that the three games are pretty much identical - the third game just isn't that much different to the first.

The trilogy might be revamped but it's still past its sell by date.
