ARTISTS UNDERTAKE SOLAR POWERED EXPEDITION ON THE SHANNON AND THE ERNE TO SPARK CLIMATE ACTION THROUGH THE ARTS.

The Eco Showboat Mayfly docks at Banagher Marina, County Offaly.

Join artists Cleary & Connolly and Alan Phelan with scientists Patrick Wyse Jackson and Rachel O'Malley in the Umbrella Dome to consider  "How Rocks Can Save the Planet";  hear about the Joly colour photography process invented by an Offaly native in the 1890's;  check out macro-invertebrates from the Little Brosna River - tiny creepy crawlies that tell us about water quality; and see the Eco Showboat Mayfly, Ireland's first zero carbon solar boat and a floating work of art. This summer Mayfly is travelling from Limerick along the Shannon and the Erne system to reach Belleek, passing through twelve counties - the first time such a journey has been done using sustainable energy. Supported by the Arts Council, Creative Ireland, SFI and Offaly County Council.
