Poetry Day Ireland’s theme, ‘There will be time’, provides a gentle reminder for staff at the Royal Victoria Eye and Ear Hospital, Dublin, to take a minute to consider care, both for their patients and themselves. All who enter the hospital doors on Poetry Day Ireland will be encouraged to reconnect with themselves through poetry, to step away from everyday stresses and nurture their creative impulses. An all-day multidisciplinary event will bring poems to the loudspeakers of the hospital’s Reflection Room, with staff reciting their favourite poems. Staff and patients will hear a new poem, or one that is familiar and comforting. In advance of the day, both children and adults are invited to submit work to a poetry competition, with finalists given the opportunity to read on the evening of Poetry Day (5-7pm) alongside a special reading from Glasgow poet Nuala Watt.
