Building on a hugely successful inaugural Mackerel festival 2012, this year's event promises a whole host of family entertainment. Follow the fish trail, mackerel sampling by restaurants, adult art, children's art show and live music all packed into the weekend.

Grilled, baked, fried or barbequed, the humble mackerel is a versatile fish that we Irish love and now is the time to get them fresh from the sea as shoals of them swim to Ireland's shores. To make the most of the incoming catch, the seaside town of Youghal, Co. Cork, is hosting a celebration of mackerel season with a three-day festival beginning Friday 30 August. Hundreds of people annually flock to the area to catch the tasty fish from the town's quays and beaches.
