The arts festivals of arts festivals has begun! From July 14 - 27 the City of the Tribes will be immersed in theatre, music, dance, visual art, culture and Galway's inimitable craic.

Some cracking theatre is in store including Ballyturk by Enda Walsh and starring Cillian Murphy and Stephen Rea, Be Infants in Evil by Brian Martin and the family friendly Bláth, presented by Branar. Another theatrical highlight is Chapatti written by Christian O’Reilly and starring Festival stalwart Frasier's John Mahoney.

As usual, music is high on the agenda. The National with special guests Phosphorescent will take to the Festival Big Top as will Imelda May, The Coronas and The Waterboys. Their brilliant live music programmes ensure that The Roisin Dubh, Monroe's and Padraig's Place are also certain to be packed to the rafters.

The city and its venues will be saturated in visual art too - with exhibitions on in the special Absolut Festival Gallery, Galway City Museum and loads more locations. Expect to stumble upon fabulous spectacles too - think dancing lobsters in Eyre Square, a 'pink invasion' on Shop Street and A Dawn Chorus in Salthill.

Amongst the smorgasbord of theater, music and art there will also be comedy, kids activities and talks.

It really is the highlight of summer in the West - visit the festival website for the full, comprehensive programme and get planning your trip to Galway!
