William Trevor's short story made famous by Pat O'Connor's film is set to become a stage show in the actual ballroom where the story was based, in a new adaptation by theatre director Michael Scott. People came on bicycles or in old motor-cars, girls and boys, men and women came from miles around in the hope of finding love and happiness or someone who will deaden the pain of "hard lives loved in the certainty of a deadening future. They paid Mr. Dwyer and passed into his dance hall, where The Romantic Jazz Band was playing The Destiny Waltz…" The Audience is asked to dress up in period clothes from the 1960s and 1970s and will be invited to dance. Refreshments (tea, orange and biscuits) will be available. City Theatre Dublin and The Glens Centre Manorhamilton  present The Ballroom of Romance on Sat 26th, Sun 27th, Tues 29th, Wed 30th July and 1st August in The Rainbow Ballroom Glenfarne, Co.Leitrim as part of the Glenfarne Gala Festival.
