Since 2005, the Gathering Festival has been widely regarded as being one of the foremost traditional events in Ireland. That is takes place in one of the most scenic areas, steeped in Irish culture makes it the ideal place to celebrate the musical prowess Ireland has in spades.
There are the traditional, highly enjoyable events to suit everyone; concerts, céilís, and a good old session or two that take place in various locations throughout Killarney. As well as that, the Festival has a unique Education element to it. Included in this is the Outreach Programme which involves a group of musicians and dancers visiting local primary schools to promote the local Sliambh Luachra tradition. Another aspect of the Education part of the Festival is the number of masterclasses and workshops that are on offer, given by highly skilled local musicians and dancers.
The Gathering stands out as a great festival and the variety of concerts, céilís, free sessions and educational offerings bring people from all over the world to Killarney each year.
