Running time: 73 min
Cert: PG
Director: Guy Maddin
Starring: Wei – Qiang Zang, Tara Birthwhistle, David Maroni

Our Curator, Kim Newman says: Guy Maddin’s ballet version is at once among the most bizarre Dracula adaptations and the most faithful to the letter of the novel. The look is shimmering, hallucinatory black and white, perfectly replicating the manner of a lost silent film classic, with vivid splashes of colour when blood is spilled or money is spent. The performances are at once broad and subtle, with Zhang Wei-Qiang among the screen’s most seductive Draculas, and the general tone manages to respect the original work, question its sexual and class politics, make light fun of the stiffness of some of Stoker’s stabs at respectability and rediscover the powerful, universal matter which makes the book worth revisiting.
