Spike Island Flag Raising Commemoration is a short ceremony to commemorate the first time that the Irish Tricolour was flown over Spike Island on 11 July 1938, by then Taoiseach Eamon De Valera.

This was an occasion for great celebration in Cobh and around Cork Harbour as earlier in the day British troops had vacated the forts of Cork Harbour and they were handed back to the Irish State as a part of the Treaty Ports Handover.

This ceremony will commence with a Parade led by St. Colman's Pipe Band and the Cobh Branch O.N.E from Cobh Heritage Centre shortly after 7.30pm. At 8pm the flag will be raised by the Mayor of Cobh in the Promenade facing Spike Island. Simultaneously the flag will be raised on Spike Island.
