Choice Cuts have some choice events going on at The Sugar Club this Soul Xmas. 9-piece, Chicago-based jazz group, Hypnotic Brass Ensemble play on Friday December 5th & Saturday 6th. Featuring 8 sons of legendary jazz trumpeter Phil Cohran on horns, these guys are about to make their third appearance in Ireland. Genuinely back by popular demand, their last two shows were runaway successes, with the Sugar Club packed to the rafters. 'Sweet' Charles Sherrell is in high demand, having already sold out The Sugar Club for his December 12th show. A childhood friend of Jimi Hendrix and the bass player for James Brown, Sweets also wrote songs, sang and played keyboards on numerous recordings including 'Ain't it Funky Now', 'The Payback', 'Mother Popcorn' and 'Get on the Good Foot'. In 1974, he decided to go solo and released the highly lauded Sweet Charles For Sweet People album on Mr. Brown's People Records. A soul legend of epic proportions, his performance at this year's Cork Jazz Festival was completely sold out.
