Seosamh MacGabhann Summer School sees participants immerse themselves in Irish music, song, dance and Gaeilge through classes, sessions, concerts, a céilí, heritage tour and craic.
Set in the village of Kilmovee, this summer school offers a fantastic, welcoming atmosphere, with top class tutors. Classes in the main traditional instruments take place in the morning with the option of taking a second class in the afternoon in Sean Nós Dancing, Gaeilge, traditional Irish & English Singing, banjo or bodhrán. Sessions are held each evening, starting with a slow session for the first hour, where pupils get a chance to practise tunes learned during the day. The tutors join the full session, leading to a great evening of song and dance. A Heritage Tour takes brings you to sites covered in Seosamh Mac Gabhann's book 'Cill Mobhí - A Handbook of Local History and Folklore'.
The All Ireland Champion Céilí Band - the Moylurg Céilí Band with Aidan Shannon, a tutor at the Summer School - will officially open the Summer School on Monday night. Sessions will take place every night and the closing concert is on Friday night with exciting new feature for 2014 - a group of 15 to 18 year olds will give a performance of music, song and dance. The Salamanca Céilí Band will close the Summer School with a Céilí Mór on Saturday night.
