Visual art, film and science collide beautifully on Thursday July 12th when we present the Irish premier of Semiconductor Films , the creative brain child of UK artist duo Ruth Jarman and Joe Gerhardt. Through moving image works they explore the material nature of our world; how we experience and try to create an understanding of it, questioning our own place in the physical universe. Their work has been screened, exhibited and collected globally, including in: The Royal Academy London; Hirshhorn Museum Washington DC; Venice Biennale Italy; FACT Liverpool; CAC Cincinnati USA; Sundance Film Festival; Rotterdam International Film Festival; and Pompidou, Paris, France. Their works include: Black Rain, a video installation which uses satellite image data to observe the space between the Sun and the Earth; Indefatigable, a film observing scientists at work on the Galapagos Islands; and Magnetic Movie, an animation exploring the material nature of interplanetary magnetic fields at a NASA space sciences laboratory.
