Come along to the Sea Shepherd Ireland's Roaringwater Bay Weekend in partnership with Whale Watch, Baltimore, West Cork.
Connect with nature and explore Roaringwater Bay and its islands, in the company of people just like you; while personally contributing to ocean conservation. Take to the ocean for a rib ride to Sherkin Island and the event base: The Islanders Rest Hotel which is known for its hospitality and music sessions. A short guided walk on Sherkin Island is your first chance to explore this world renowned landscape, its history and to meet the islands inhabitants, human and wildlife.
Bring your binoculars on an island hop to Clear Island and check the horizon for whales, seals, birds and so much more. Discuss what a special area of conservation is and what that means for the bay, its inhabitants and visitors. Enjoy a relaxed lunch overlooking North Harbour before continuing on your nature walk. The group will then return to Sherkin to meet invited islanders, guests and the general public for a private screening of the film 'Blackfish' which focuses on captive Orca Tilikum. This will be followed by an open discussion before heading to the bar, where local musicians hold regular sessions.
A chartered Wildlife trip will be hosted by Nic Slocum whose local knowledge ensures an interesting and ethical experience exploring the islands, the Ilen River estuary and the bay looking for sea birds, whales, porpoises and seals. Weather permitting, there will be a visit to Fastnet - a trip only possible on a few days a year! The group will then take the scenic route back to Baltimore where the weekend will come to a close, over lunch.
