Cork Midsummer Festival is proud to open the Festival with this thrilling and inspiring evening of music and dance.

In Rian, Irish for 'imprint' or 'trace', acclaimed choreographer Michael Keegan-Dolan and leading musician Liam Ó Maonlaí embark on a journey to celebrates the tension and harmony between traditional music and contemporary dance, with a united company of extraordinary musicians and dancers.

Rian taps healthy life enhancing traditions with influences from faraway places to evoke a timeless vision of the real indescribable nature of things. The Festival is delighted to bring this ?internationally acclaimed production to Cork.

Ó Maonlaí’s album Rian was inspired by Seán Ó Riada’s legendary recording, Ó Riada sa Gaiety, and this production combines Rian as part of a live score with new material performed by Ó Maonlaí and leading musicians from across Ireland. Fabulous Beast is led by director and choreographer Michael Keegan-Dolan. Known for their unique style which blends narrative ?and physical theatre, dance, speech and song, Fabulous Beast has received great critical acclaim for ground-breaking and sometimes controversial productions including Giselle and The Bull.
