Director Marc Schmidt films his childhood friend Matthew, who, due to his autism, desperately tries to create order from the chaos that surrounds him. Matthew’s hoarding, his run-ins with the law and his unique systems for recording his life make for a unique film. In Matthew’s Laws Schmidt creates a riveting portrait of his friend’s struggles, examining his explosive confrontations with the outside world and his troubled inner life. Little by little the film unravels Matthew’s complex way of thinking and shows the catastrophic consequences this eventually has for him.
