'The Capital'

This body of work documents one of the last 35mm film cinema theatres in Ireland before it shut its doors for the last time in 2009. It was forced into closure because of the changing pace in time from analogue to digital.

The conflicted reaction to the novelty of newness quarrelled with the fondness of the familiar for the residents of Thurles in County Tipperary.

This contemporary approach is the photographers attempt to illuminate the nostalgia associated with the classic structure of the bygone film era.

From a personal perspective “The Capital” represents the excited child going to the pictures for the first time, the fluttery adolescent on a date to a re-experiencing adult sharing the cinema magic.
