Describing himself as an "avid synchronised swimmer" and a huge Marty Whelan fan, Spain became interested in performing on stage through his TV production diploma course in Coláiste Dhulaigh in Dublin. In 2000 he won the RTE New Comedian Award. In 2002 he appeared at the BBC comedy awards. In 2003 he appeared on Ed Byrne's (as it was at the time) Just for Laughs. And if you still didn't know who he was in 2005 he made sure to change that with his hit TV show "Karl Spain Wants A Woman". Fantastic idea that - even if none of the lovely women he met are the light of his life, he must get a lot more action now that he's famous and all. And now he's established himself as one of Ireland's top comedians with a reputation as a top headline act and excellent MC, Spain has gone from strength to strength as a live performer all around Ireland. Karl Spain plays the Laughter Lounge from November 13th to 15th. Tickets are priced €28 from ticketmaster and usual outlets.
