Austrian born, Waterford-based artist Gottfried Helnwein is exhibiting a new installation on the streets of Waterford, entitled The Last Child. Described as a controversial figure, whose art is provocative, edgy and larger than life, Helnwein is an internationally acclaimed artist whose works have been exhibited worldwide in prestigious venues such as the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, the State Russian Museum, the Ludwig Museum in Cologne and even in the homes of Sean Penn and Nicholas Cage. Helwein's work is dark, visceral and has a deep quality which cannot be ignored. Waterford Fringe Festival will present a spectacular outdoor exhibition of Helnweins work in September of this year. The exhibition involves a series of his paintings screen printed to very large images and displayed on prominent Waterford city centre premises, one of Ireland's largest ever outdoor exhibitions.
