The 2013 Festival of the Sea, Cleggan/Claddaghduff on the beautiful Aughrus Peninsula in West Connemara, is a 17 day celebration of summertime. It's a time for fun, sport, relaxation, music, meeting friends old and new, welcoming visitors. The Festival of the Sea provides a focal point for overseas visitors to West Connemara and for the many emigrants who have left these shores over the years and settled abroad. It aims for participation by locals and visitors alike. The Festival includes all sorts of outdoor activities including triathlons (not just one but two – a really serious one and a shorter one for the somewhat less fit); a 10k run/walk for all; golf at the nearby championship links; tug o' war; family sports; fun 'superstars'; guided nature and archaeological walks for adults and children. There will be talks on various aspects of the area; and a special exhibition of old photographs from yesteryear. Indoor activities will include drama; cheese and wine reception; seafood buffet; seafood cooking demo; pool competition; and lots of fun and socialising! There will be a series of musical events, emphasising Irish traditional music, song and dance. A number of these events during the Festival period take place early, to make it easy for tourists/visitors with children to attend. Participation by all, is encouraged and welcomed, whatever your musical level!
