Dublin Dance Festival celebrates its 15th edition this year. The festival brings the best Irish and international dance artists to Dublin stages each May. It brings artists and audiences together to create and share exceptional, provocative and relevant dance experiences.

The Dublin Dance Festival 2019 programme strands cover 'Power of Party', 'Dedication to Dance', 'The Shifting World' and 'Moving Every Body'.

Here's what you need to know about 'Power of Party.'

Synopsis

Sometimes the effects of our dizzying world bring us to the brink and we need to cut loose - to act, enjoy, express. To embark on a search for shared release, to find a movement, a community, or a party.

RIOT: ThisisPopBaby

Be part of the Dublin Dance Festival Opening Night magic as international smash hit RIOT kicks things off in style.

The award-winning, explosive, cabaret performance has set hearts alight all over the globe. It is coming home for 6 shows only at Vicar Street.

RIOT is a disorderly cocktail of bangin’ jigs, mind-blowing moves, jaw-droppingly sexy circus and gut-punching spoken word. It leaves audiences dazzled, dizzy and ready to change the world.

RIOT unites stars of the Irish stage and screen in a divine celebration and blunt critique of the world today. It is brilliant, brazen and downright bizarre.

Meet us at the barricades once more for a night of acrobatics, thumping tunes, slapstick comedy and jaw-droppingly sexy circus. It’s your big night out, with a delicious twist.

Street Dance Battle: Top 8

Feel the passion and energy of local and international street dance legends with festival favourite, Top 8 Street Dance Battle.

Taking over Meeting House Square, this powerhouse event sees the freshest street dancers from Ireland and abroad square off to do battle on the dance floor. They'll compete in qualifying heats earlier in the day. Then they’ll be flaunting their best moves, from poppin', to gravity-defying breakin’ and hard-hitting Krump, to claim the top spot.

Pumping beats from high-profile DJs, dynamic MCs and a mind-blowing showcase by international street dance legends will up the energy in this epic celebration of street dance and hip-hop culture for all ages.

Tiny Dancer: A DJ Set for Kids

Let the children take over the dance floor with Tiny Dancer: A DJ Set for Kids. DJ Donal Dineen hits the decks with funky dance tunes from every era.

The event sold out in December at the Abbey Theatre (in the Peacock) so this is a chance to get in on the action if you missed out then.

Big beats for tiny feet and parents will enjoy it as much as the kids!

Bounce Club Night

Adults with intellectual disabilities can also join in the club experience as Bounce Club Night comes to Dublin for the first time. The evening creates a fun, safe and accessible space for people of all abilities to socialise with friends and dance the night away in a club environment.

With a sound that walks the line between synth pop and indie, the diverse band Electric Dreams share their message of inclusion and community. Live Bounce DJs also play a wide range of music from pop and rock to RnB and timeless classics.

The DDF Extended programme offers audiences and communities a chance to dive in and experience more. Partnering with The Digital Hub, Dublin Dance Festival and Selina Thompson bring 'The Missy Elliot Project' to Dublin this year. It's an opportunity for women and girls of colour, aged between 14 and 17, to make a VR experience with all of the energy and excitement of an old-school Missy Elliott video.

A wide selection of Workshops & Master Classes are also available for everyone from young children to dance practitioners.

A dynamic programme of Works-In-Development by some or Ireland’s most exciting dance artists, a series of Dance on Film and Discussions provide new perspectives on the artform of dance.
