Éigse Mhaol Donn provides a unique opportunity to celebrate the rich cultural heritage of Newcastle through a variety of activities including informative lectures and scenic walks along the foothills of the Knockmealdown Mountains. Based in Newcastle, the only (former) Breac-Ghaeltacht in Tipperary, Éigse gives people the opportunity to celebrate their love of the Irish language with particular emphasis on the literary achievements of local authors and song writers, including Séamas O Mhaolchathaigh and Liam Ó Lúbaigh.
Last year's festival goers enjoyed a lively workshop on local Sean-Nós songs and some very informative lectures on related topics. The well-renowned Cór na bhFear group entertained a large crowd in the Community Hall, while local guides led fascinating walks through the foothills of the Knockmealdown Mountains. With a focus on Culture, Literature and the Environment, 2014 promises to be yet another interesting gathering for motivated people and there will be many activities to entertain the family, including music sessions, dance, Tai-Chi classes, heritage walks, lectures and bike tours in the scenic surroundings of Newcastle.
The English translation of 'An Gleann is Raibh Ann' will also be launched over the weekend.
