Subject/SWIRL's Bank Holiday Sunday event is as always a 2 room party with special guest Chris Duckenfield [SWAG] back again [after his rocking set for us last year], playing alongside Subject/SWIRL residents and up and coming Detroit enthusiasts - TR One / Broken Audio Movement who have really started to make a name for themselves. Chris Duckenfield grew up in a totally mixed neighbourhood and Hip Hop/Electro became a schoolyard and summer holiday obsession. In 1989 he got his first residency, along with DJ buddy at the time, Richard Benson, and learnt the art of making people dance, and putting records together on the job. He went on to get a "proper job" in the WARP record store, at the time the creative centre for the UK's most forward thinking artists. He made a few records for them (as RAC) first on the Nucleus label and later on WARP proper. Having been DJing now for 15 years, Chris also runs my own little second hand record grocery DUCKBEATS RECORDS, while still having enormous fun making music, of whatever variety...some of which you can hear at Subject/SWIRL's Easter Sunday Party at 4 Dame Lane on April 12th.
