The creative collective know as UpStart are taking a vacant site in Dublin’s inner city and transforming it into an urban ‘pop-up’ park from August 22nd - September 22nd 2013.

Granby Park will be Dubln's first full-scale urban 'pop-up' park and will see UpStart transforming this disused piece of land (located in Parknell Street and Dominick Street) with up-cycled, recycled, donated and found materials. They've even brought some of the city's most talented artists, architects, performers and planners on board to fill the area with an outdoor cinema, a theatre made by kids from palettes, an education zone, exhibitions, a play area, a café, arts installations and loads more.

Sam Bishop, a founder of UpStart and many Dublin events (Street Feast), says: "This is an opportunity to transform something ugly and grey into something colourful and beautiful which will inspire creativity and change. We want the local community involved, we want people to use the space. We want it to be something quite magical for Dublin, and a recession antidote for Ireland..."

Personally, I think this sounds like a brilliant project. Screw the recession, this kind of perspective shift and creativity is just the sort of thing we need to create a more positive atmosphere around the city. See you there in August!
