The Quarrymen were a British skiffle and rock 'n' roll group, formed by John Lennon in Liverpool in 1956. The band evolved into The Beatles in 1960. Its original members were Lennon and several school friends from Quarry Bank High School. They played at parties, school dances, cinemas and amateur skiffle contests. Paul McCartney joined the band in July 1957. George Harrison joined in early 1958 (aged 14).
