To commemorate the 100th anniversary of J.M. Synge's death (March 24th, 1909), Druid will undertake a tour of the UK and Galway with DruidSynge: The Playboy of the Western World. Druid and Tony-Award winning director Garry Hynes have been credited with staging the definitive Playboy, masterfully balancing the darkness and comedy of one of their most unforgettable productions. Synge's best-know work, the savagely funny Playboy of the Western World was the first play presented by Druid in 1975 and the company has since wowed audiences all around the world. Playboy tells the story of Christy Mahon, who stumbles into a public house in County Mayo claiming he has killed his father and so capturing the imagination of the locals and the romantic attention of the daughter of the house, Pegeen Mike. Actor Aaron Monaghan reprises the lead role of Christy following his stunning portrayal of Cripple Billy in The Cripple of Inishmaan by Martin McDonagh, a role that earned him a Best Actor nomination at the 2008 Irish Times Theatre Awards.  The Playboy of the Western World plays as Galway's Town Hall Theatre from June 2nd to 6th. Tickets are priced €25/€18
