Promoters U:MACK welcome the most depraved man in America, pioneering stand-up comedian Doug Stanhope to Dublin with open arms. Stanhope's live performances are a visceral assault on the senses (at one gig in America, over 600 people walked out) and his material ranges from true-life graphic perversion to volatile social criticism. The last time he came to Ireland for the Cat Laughs festival in Kilkenny, he managed to perform for just 10 minutes before being asked to leave the stage and having all his remaining slots cancelled. The man is considered a true visionary, but his material is pretty far out, so if you find jokes about abortion, hookers, drugs and two-headed babies offensive, this show is not for you. Despite all that he's not a completely unreasonable man as entertainment.ie found out when we interviewed him. Doug Stanhope plays The Button Factory on September 4th as well as the Roisin Dubh in Galway the previous night September 3rd.
