Come to Daingean for something different as we take you back to Medieval times. Try your hand at archery or bob gently on the water in a currach, then sample scrumptious lamb roasted over an open fire.

Daingean has a full weekend of events planned including a surf 'n' turf on Saturday with canoeing, kayaking, water polo, water zorbing, followed by a mouth watering barbeque and more boating fun. For the really energetic, there will be a mini triathlon consisting of running, canoeing and cycling.

On Sunday the pace will be a little more sedate as you are transported back to Medieval times when the O'Connors upheld Philipstown (Daingean) as their stronghold in Offaly. A battle re-enactment between the O'Connors and the Anglicans, a straw hut settlement with a lamb roasting over an open fire are what's on offer. Experience the taste of homemade potato bread cooked on a skillet over a named flame. Come along and watch the local blacksmith make a shoe for his horse, then take a journey around Daingean in a horse drawn vehicle.

Try your hand at butter churning, basket weaving or archery. These are just some of the things planned for the day as well as an array of livestock and a chicken fair. And of course we hope to see you milling about dressed in Medieval costume! The Heritage Boat Association will be in Daingean over the weekend before heading to Shannon Harbour for mid-summer celebrations
