Step back in time this weekend, and help celebrate the most famous High King of Ireland, Brian Ború, who will be remembered in his birthplace to mark the 1000th year anniversary of his death.

Visitors to the twin towns of Killaloe, County Clare and Ballina, County Tipperary this Friday to Sunday (April 11 - 13) will see medieval Ireland brought to life with a host of brilliant activities and exciting events such as battle re-enactments, Viking boat tours, walking tours, theatre and music and more.

The Brian Ború Millenium Weekend is one of the highlights of the Brian Ború Programme 2014, which also includes events in Cashel, where Brian was crowned High King, Clontarf, where he was killed and Armagh where he is buried.

Councillor Joe Arkins, Mayor of Clare remarked, 'Clare County Council is delighted to partner with the local community of Killaloe Ballina in celebrating the life and achievements of one of its most famous citizens. The Millennium Weekend forms part of a national Programme which the Council is delighted to lead in an effort to ensure that the Brian Ború millennial anniversary is established as an important cultural and tourism activity which lays the platform for further cultural and tourism development in future years."
