Dir: Woody Allen USA 2013 98 mins Cert: 15A
Starring: Cate Blanchett, Alec Baldwin, Sally Hawkins, Bobby Cannavale, Andrew Dice Clay
Language: English

Cate Blanchett is outstanding as Jasmine, a down-and-out New York socialite who, left destitute by her cheating husband (Baldwin)’s financial misdemeanours, moves in with her adopted sister (Hawkins) and her blue-collar boyfriend in San Francisco. Oscillating between cool, razor-tongued haughtiness and agitated pill-popping anxiety, Blanchett is a neurotic Allen heroine par excellence, while Hawkins is quietly wonderful as her long-suffering sibling.

Typically polished dialogue and serrating humour ensure this will go down as a favourite in the Allen canon. - Cambridge Film Festival 2013
