Bia Lover is a family friendly festival that celebrates all that is great about Irish food. From chocolate to cheese, beer to bread and sea-food to salad there is sure to be something to tickle your taste-buds.
The aim of Bia Lover is to celebrate and promote the wonderful variety and quality of food and drink produced in Galway and the West of Ireland. With this in mind, the core event of the festival is a Producer's Market where up to 70 artisan producers will showcase and sell their goods on Saturday & Sunday.
The market is located in the centre of Athenry beside the Clarin River and with the beautifully restored Athenry Castle as a backdrop. Cookery demonstrations featuring local produce and cook-off competitions will add to the experience, while stilt walkers and face painters will help keep the little ones entertained. Perhaps you want to reconnect with the countryside and the food it produces? If so there are farm walks, foraging trails and producer talks just for you! Or maybe you would prefer to take part in a food trail where the local restaurants and cafés will have the opportunity to dazzle you with their amazing dishes.
Bia Lover is certainly worth checking out and the region surrounding Athenry is definitely worth exploring. Situated just 20km east of Galway City on the M6 motorway and with regular rail services to Galway, Dublin and Limerick it couldn't be easier to visit us this mid-summers weekend.
