This year's festival is bookended by the first visits to this island by two amazing octogenarian legends, the world's greatest film composer Ennio Morricone and musical theatre's greatest living singer, Barbara Cook.  Morricone's influence is felt elsewhere with a retrospective at QFT, and contributions from Radiohead's Jonny Greenwood, Brazilian superstar Seu Jorge and The Swell Season add to a soundtrack theme. Other highlights include Footsbarn's carnivalesque A Midsummer Night's Dream in Ormeau Park, brilliant reworkings of Antigone by Owen McCafferty for Prime Cut and Cat on a Hot Tin Roof by The Corn Exchange, premiere visits by choreographers Michael Clark and Wayne McGregor, top class classical music, jazz, comedy, literature, folk and everything in between. It truly is an exciting time for the Ulster Bank Belfast Festival at Queen's and the city of Belfast and it promises to be the best, most eclectic festival yet. The festival runs from October 17th to 1st November.
