Some of the most well known names in Irish music are making their way to Cork for the annual Beamish Cork Folk Festival. The festival, which runs from 2nd to 5th October, is put together year after year by a dedicated group of music enthusiasts who work on a purely voluntary basis, whose energy and labour are evident in the nature of the festival. The Cork Folk Festival's annual objective is straightforward - to present the best of local, national, and international folk and traditional music, song and dance on Leeside in late August/early September each year. The Festival will take place in over 22 venues in Cork city featuring over 34 acts, 280 musicians and 5,000 dancers as part of this year’s Céilí Mór celebrations. This year’s highlights will include Damien Dempsey, West Kerry's 'Beal Tuinne' featuring Seamus Begley, Rita Connolly, Jim Murray and Shaun Davey, vibrant 11 piece world music fusion band 'Salsa Celtica' from Edinburgh and Frankie Gavin and Martin O'Connor and Karen Casey who will perform in the beautiful St Finbarr's Cathedral. Also playing will be Lisa Hannigan, currently enjoying the success of her newly released album "Sea Sew". As always the festival will include the festival club specialist concerts and master classes.
