Benjamin Britten's delightful comic opera, set to a libretto adapted from the play by William Shakespeare, receives its Irish premiere in a new production by Opera Ireland this season. A Midsummer Night's Dream will feature a predominantly Irish cast, including Gerard O'Connor as Bottom and Louise Walsh in the virtuosic role of Tytania, while the stunning Italian counter-tenor Flavio Oliver returns to Opera Ireland in the role of Oberon, King of the Fairies. Britten's score perfectly captures the ethereal magic of the fairy kingdom and the opera is full of delights and surprises including the rustics' charming ‘play within a play' which turns into a hilarious parody of 19th century opera. The RTÉ Concert Orchestra will bring to life this enchanting opera under the renowned Scottish conductor Stewart Robertson at Dublin's Gaiety Theatre on November 16th, 18th and 21st. Tickets are priced between €25 and €70. See our theatre listings for more details
