Second Theatre Company have announced their new Autumn/Winter season, with a version of A Doll’s House by Henrik Ibsen. This new version of the Ibsen Classic, written by Alan Stanford is based on a literary translation by the Ibsen scholar and Norwegian translator Paul Larkin. The World Premiere of Alan Stanford’s version of A Doll’s House will take place at Everyman Palace, Cork before touring to Helix Theatre, Dublin and Glór, Co Clare for matinee and evening performances at each venue. In this beautifully crafted version by Stanford, the play is moved forward just fifty years and into the 1930’s. The action has not completely shifted away from Norway, but Stanford does modernise the dialogue somewhat. Stanford’s rationale for any modernisations comes from his belief that any drama after a certain amount of time will begin to acquire a period or museum like feel.
