‘A Clamour of Rooks’ is the story of a prodigal daughter, Sophia, who returns home to care for her dying mother. Her efforts to save her mother and find reconciliation lead her on a nightmarish fairy-tale journey deep into the unspeakable memories of their troubled past. Sophia’s journey brings her into contact with mysterious and supernatural forces.

This piece brings the audience on a unique journey through an exciting 80-minute theatre piece created by the students of Carthage College, Kenosha, WI, USA as part of the Gaiety School of Acting - Original Theatre Project. This is a four-stage project that began back in the US in their theatre department and has been developed, rehearsed and performed at Smock Alley Theatre.

This work was written by playwright Martin Maguire in collaboration with Carthage Theatre and Patrick Sutton, Director of the Gaiety School of Acting. It will be directed by Neil Kristian Scharnick with set and lighting design by Martin McClendon and Brian Cherry. Music has been composed by Katie Zutter and costume by Kim Instenes.
