Cork City Gaol is the spooky setting for the 8th World Ghost Convention on Halloween night, the only event of its kind in the world. The gaol, which dates back to the 19th century, has its own resident ghosts, with eerie apparitions having been spotted by members of the audience and speakers since the first ghost convention in 2001. The convention was established to give a voice to those who had supernatural experiences who perhaps were hesitant to tell others and to prove to them that they were not alone in their experiences. The convention also provides an opportunity for the many people fascinated with the supernatural to hear a colourful assortment of supernatural topics discussed by a panel of guest speakers from different backgrounds and professions. Speakers confirmed to appear at the convention include Dr. Margaret Humphreys, Folklore and Ethnology Department from University College Cork as well as Psychic Healer Mary Maddison and Helen Barrett, the White Witch of the Isles. The convention is to be opened by the Lord Mayor of Cork, Cllr. Brian Bermingham. The event takes place on 31st October and tickets are priced at €25.
