A short introduction by visiting expert in Chinese film, Robert Hamilton, from Manchester Metropolitan University, will be followed by a screening of Jia Zhang Ke’s '24 City'.
The film tells the story of factory 420, which is being pulled down to make way for multi-story, luxury flats. Workers talk about the factory, which manufactured military aircraft, and about their careers and lives. The screening will be followed by a discussion on the award-winning director Jia Zhang Ke by senior lecturer, Robert Hamilton and members of the School of Applied Language and Intercultural Studies (SALIS) at DCU.
This is followed by a selection of Short Animation Films: Award-winning Chinese animations, courtesy of the CICAF Hangzhou International Animation Festival 2011, will be screened alongside a selection of short films by some of Ireland’s leading animators who will contribute to a discussion on animation as part of the screening.
