Timothée Chalamet is in final talks to star in the highly anticipated reboot of ‘Dune.’ Denis Villeneuve, the director of ‘Sicario,’ ‘Prisoners,’ ‘Arrival’ and ‘Blade Runner 2049,’ is set to helm the sci fi epic.
Filming on the project is set to begin early next year.
Timothée Chalamet shot to fame following his role in ‘Call Me By your Name’, a performance which earned him an Oscar nomination, and he also starred in last year’s ‘Ladybird.’
Chalamet has since been cast as Henry V in Netflix series ‘The King’ and is to reunite with ‘Ladybird’ director Greta Gerwig and actress Saoirse Ronan on ‘Little Women.’ He next stars in ‘Beautiful Boy’ opposite Steve Carell.
The actor is up to play the leading role of Muad’Dib in ‘Dune.’ In the original version of the film, released in 1984, ‘Twin Peaks’’ Kyle MacLachlan led the David Lynch-directed movie.
Eric Roth (‘Forest Gump,’ ‘Munich,’ ‘The Curious Case of Benjamin Button’) is adapting the screenplay based on Frank Herbert’s novel. The story follows the son of a noble family trying to avenge his father's death while saving a spice planet that he is entrusted to protect.
Legendary Entertainment closed a deal with the Herbert estate in 2016 for the iconic novel, granting the studio rights to not only films, but also TV projects on the sci-fi property.
The studio is looking to release the film in summer 2020. Expect further casting news in the coming weeks to months.
