Keanu Reeves has confirmed the official title for the third instalment of the ‘John Wick’ franchise, and provided an explanation for its name.

The working title ‘John Wick 3: Parabellum’ has now been revealed to be the final title of the movie.

Reeves told Comingsoon.net that it was inspired by a Latin phrase meaning ‘prepare for war’.

"It’s part of that famous sentence, ‘Si vis pacem, para bellum,’ which translates as, ‘If you want peace, prepare for war,” Reeves explained.

Footage from the set of the film leaked last month, while the full cast list – including new additions Anjelica Huston and Halle Berry as well as returning actors Ian McShane and Laurence Fishburne – has also been released.

Reeves also talked about Berry's character, Sophia, a first look of whom also debuted in June.

Asked how she enhances Wick, Reeves kept his mouth shut on whether she was a good or bad guy, answering:

"Yeah, John Wick is fighting for his life and thinks that Halle Berry’s character has some information for him. They have a past, and they get involved with The High Table, this kind of overlording entity. (laughs)"

Chad Stahelski, who directed both the first ‘John Wick’ and ‘John Wick: Chapter 2’, will be directing the third instalment too.

‘John Wick 3: Parabellum’ is currently shooting and is set for release on May 19th, 2019.
