The latest movies from Gerard Butler, including 'Geostorm', 'Olympus Has Fallen' and its two sequels, 'Den of Thieves' and 'Gods of Egypt' have all been pretty appalling. Several titles have ended up on worst movies of the year lists.

But we've got to hand it to the guy - movies starring Gerard Butler still typically turn a big profit. Audiences want to see the Scottish actor kick butt, even if the quality of his movies is seriously wanting.

This latest is due to hit cinemas in August. Thus it will be among the first movies to hit theatres post lockdown.

'Greenland' is the name of the movie and Ric Roman Waugh ('Angel Has Fallen') directs. Morena Baccarin ('Deadpool', 'Serenity', 'Homeland') co-stars.

According to the official plot synopsis, "A family fights for survival as a planet-killing comet races to Earth. John Garrity (Gerard Butler), his estranged wife Allison (Morena Baccarin), and young son Nathan make a perilous journey to their only hope for sanctuary.

"Amid terrifying news accounts of cities around the world being leveled by the comet’s fragments, the Garrity’s experience the best and worst in humanity while they battle the increasing panic and lawlessness surrounding them.

"As the countdown to global apocalypse approaches zero, their incredible trek culminates in a desperate and last-minute flight to a possible safe haven."

'Greenland' hits cinemas August 2020.
